How To Sharpen Your Writing Skills...Written By AFIA ENGLISH

I have been in love with 'writing' and 'reading' since I was 8,and I have never stopped writing or reading.

In view of this,I want to share some tips on how to sharpen your writing skills.

A writer is a person whose job is writing books, stories, articles and what have you…

A writer is also a person who uses written words in various styles and techniques to communicate ideas.

Writers produce various forms of literary arts and creative writing such as novels, short stories, poetry, plays, news articles, screenplays or essays.

In other words, a writer is a person engaged in writing books, articles, stories etc. especially as an occupation or profession, an author or journalist..

Just like any other skill, there are challenges that every writer face..

The following are ways in which you can improve your writing skills, and these steps are purely my opinion.

Firstly, WRITE MORE OFTEN. Be Consistent. Writing is like any other skill, the more that you write , the better you will become at it. As a writer, you need to write more often in order to become better at it.

Secondly, WRITE CATCHY HEADLINES. Ghanaians reading this will just knock at this point mainly because most Ghanaians only read headlines to understand or get the news. Once its catchy, they will definitely click on it and read.

Again, KNOW WHEN TO USE A ‘COMMA’. The ‘comma’  is the most overused price of punctuation. To attact today’s busy readers, you must respond to their need for clarity conciseness in written communication. Edit your writing for clarity and ease of reading. Misplaced commas can disrupt the flow of your words , making your concepts difficult to understand.

Lastly, BE YOU. Do not copy someone's style of writing. Like i said in one of my quotes "It is good to have a mentor but create your own story.  And most importantly do not engage yourself in plagiarism. It is a very bad practice.

Do you have something to add up to this?..
